This is Pepper, a very old Grey-cheeked parakeet in his 20′s. His owner, Alexandria, took this shot outdoors. Pepper loves being outside- Alexandria says it looks he’s praying not to be taken back inside!
Thanks to man’s mishandling, these birds are very difficult to get as pets, and are endangered in their natural environment.

He looks so peaceful!
I can’t blame him for not wanting to go back inside
He is very adorable. My dog growing up was named Pepper
How precious! That is a sweet picture of your baby.
pepper is beautiful. how smart are parrot?
Pepper is so adorable…exactly how old is he?
My grey cheek Dozer is about 19 and he is amazing! if I could ever find another, I would get one in a heartbeat!
I had a Grey Cheek for 15 years. He was the most incredible little bird. He had to be a part of everything the family was doing. We called him the little green man…his personality was so huge. Anyone lucky enough to have a grey cheek in their life knows this. Unfortunately, they are not easy to breed in captivity and most that were sold as pets in the 80′s were wild-caught. Ecuadorian housewives would make extra money by taking babies from the nests and hand-rearing them. This made an already docile and friendly bird the perfect little bird. They were also cheap… $70 or so, they became hugely popular, and because of the ignorance of people (mine included) they became endangered. The US put them on the list of bird species no longer legal to import (wisely) but loss of habitat is further contributing to their decline. I have looked for a US breeder for years, but it’s been impossible to find one. Those who have them, cherish them! They are amazing little birds that love to cuddle.
